Frequently Asked Questions

What steps occur during waxing?
The area to be waxed is exposed, cleaned with an antiseptic, then dusted with a light powder. A warm wax is applied to the area. A strip of pellon cloth is pressed firmly to the wax and briskly removed, taking the wax and the hair with it. A gentle oil removes any remaining bits of wax and soothes the skin. For sensitive areas such as the face and bikini, a rapidly-hardening, non-strip wax that is removed by hand rather than a pellon strip may be used. You and your esthetician will decide what is best for you.

What would prevent me from waxing?
If any of the following apply to you, you are not a candidate for waxing at this time:

  • Taking Accutane (wait at least 1 month after completing your Accutane treatment)
  • Taking any medication that is known to increase skin sensitivity (check with your doctor if you are unsure)
  • Using Retin-A, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, or other similar peeling agents in the areas to be waxed (discontinue use 1 week prior to waxing)
  • Recently had a chemical peel, laser treatment, or photo facial (ask your medical professional how long you should wait before waxing)
  • Just tanned in the sun or tanning bed

How long should my hair be?
Hair growth should be at least 1/4" but not longer than 1/2" for the most effective waxing.

How rapidly will the hair grow back after waxing?
Most people's hair grows back within 3 to 4 weeks. Hair grows in 3 phases, so you may see the next phase growing in just a little in the next week or so. Hair growth becomes less and less the more you wax!

I’ve never waxed before... how painful is it?
We’re not going to lie to you; waxing is not a relaxing service. However, most individuals become accustomed to the procedure after their second or third visit.

What's a woman's Bikini wax vs. Brazilian wax?
The bikini area includes the hair above the pelvis and on the inner thighs. A Brazilian wax traditionally means the complete removal of ALL hair from front to back. However, you are welcome to exclude any particular area – just let your esthetician know.
